Adoption |
Some people have a desire to adopt a pet rather than to purchase one. This is a wonderful idea and most often the pet makes the transition into the family with out an issue. There are times though where adoptive pets do not fit in with the family. There are many reasons that animals find their way to shelters. Most often they are unwanted and are abandoned, for no good reason. Sometimes they are abused or have behavior problems. It is always a good idea to have your adoptive animal evaluated before bringing it home. Evaluations can be done at the shelter, by your Veterinarian, or by a trainer.
Mostly, every Township on Long Island has an animal shelter. You can contact them by looking in the phone book for their phone number and address. You may also find a list by clicking on here.
There are many private shelters on Long Island too. Here is a list of some. If you are a shelter or an adoption agency and wish to be listed on this web site. Please e-mail us. |
